We all started somewhere. This is our story.
Centratel Group Investments was founded in 2001 by Michael Aitken and Steven Dent. Centracell (sim-based LCR), Centravoice (PBX Distribution), Centrafin (asset-based finance), and Cignale (PBX sales, installation and service) were founded with a focus on offering hardware and services within the ICT sector of South Africa.
Centracom was founded in 2008 to consolidate all of Centratel Group Investment’s offerings and provide a solution to replace traditional LCR (Least Cost Routing) technologies through a cheaper and more efficient alternative – Voice over Internet Protocol known as VoIP.
Centracom’s Voice offering fell in line with changing technologies and international trends with the ability to identify these trends as a key character success trait of Michael and Steven. This, coupled with efficient service, led to Centracom being awarded with the ECN Reseller of the Year for 2009.
Centracom furthered this success through strict Channel integrity, transparency, innovation and ease of doing business, quickly establishing itself as one of the leading Voice Service Providers for ICT dealers in South Africa.
We stuck to the basics, and we grew!
Centracom quickly grew from a Voice and associated hardware offering to a full Voice Service Provider, offering clients full Voice and PBX installation and maintenance services. This growth allowed Centracom to reposition itself as a Carrier of Carriers and offer its clients full network redundancy through 4 of South Africa’s leading Voice Networks, but, more importantly, allowed Centracom to pass on a very unique and beneficial price proposition to clients. This, as you can imagine, delighted them. In mid-2014, Centracom grew to a critical point, enabling it to purchase its own PortaOne soft switch. This expanded Centracom’s offering to include a Hosted PBX solution called Cloudcall.
This further allowed Centracom to act on its realisation that clients’ needs had evolved and that a complete and fully consolidated Voice, Data and Connectivity service was required. Centracom formed its Data and Connectivity division Centranet in September 2014 through the expertise of Willie Olivier, an innovative and experienced data & connectivity leader.
